Implant Dentistry: the Gold Standard for Restoring Missing Teeth, says Mountain View Dental Implant Expert

Missing teeth can be replaced with bridges, dentures, or dental implants – all of which have a place in dental treatment. Fixed bridges and removable dentures cost less than dental implants, but they are not always the best solution. The first thing most of us think of is that removable dentures can slip or cause embarrassing sounds while the wearer is eating or speaking. Of even greater concern, placement of fixed bridges often requires the partial cutting of the healthy teeth next to them; removable dentures may lead to bone loss in the area where the tooth or teeth are missing; and recurrent decay, gum disease and other factors can lead to the failure of fixed bridgework. For these reasons, bridges and dentures usually need to be replaced every 7 to 15 years, compared to an average 25-year life span for dental implants.

No Kidding – Children’s Oral Health Is Crucial to Healthy Adult Teeth, Says Mountain View, CA Dentist

Teeth are strong but surprisingly vulnerable, and this is particularly the case with kids’ teeth. It’s a common misconception that it doesn’t matter what happens to children’s teeth in the early years, as those teeth will fall out anyway. In fact, dental hygiene in early childhood is a crucial foundation for a mouthful of great teeth as an adult. Problems like caries or gum disease in the early years can lead to pain, missed school days, or bigger heath issues. It is critical to prevent and protect against such issues from infancy.

Proper dental hygiene and attention to oral care should be established as early as possible to prevent future complications – and it’s not just the parents’ job. A Dentistry IQ website report dated September 3, 2014 stresses that children need to learn how to brush and care for their own teeth at an early age. The best way for them to do this is to learn from dentists.

Guidelines for Healthy Teeth in Later Years, from Mountain View CA Dentist Dr. Patrick McEvoy DDS

Seniors often suffer from dry mouth. This is more than an inconvenience, says Mountain View, CA dentist Dr. McEvoy. This may seem like a minor inconvenience, but actually saliva contains calcium and phosphates that help protect teeth from weakness and decay. It’s not natural to suffer from dry mouth. It’s a condition most commonly caused by the side effects of medications. A dentist can recommend solutions ranging from a simple reminder, to drink more water, to recommending that the patient work with their medical advisor to explore alternative medication options.

Dental Review for Patrick F. McEvoy DDS in Mountain View California

Creating trusting relationships with all our patients is very to us. Comments like this are greatly appreciated!

Dentist Review for Patrick F. McEvoy, DDS by Edward S.:

“Dr. Patrick McEvoy is the most genuine, considerate, and technically proficient dentist I have ever had the pleasure of coming across, and there are dentists in my family I hope never read this. He helped me out during a time I really didn’t trust the dental industry due to a previous experience I’d gone through. Despite past experiences, Dr. McEvoy showed me just how powerful technology and human expertise can be when combined and directed to the task of dental care. I haven’t needed it personally, but according to a source I trust very much… my mother… his syringe-less numbing technique is painless and proficient, and makes it so precise, your whole jaw isn’t tingly or numb after the procedure. Lets face it, no one wants to walk around with half their face frozen for a third of the day. And on top if it all, you get the charm and swag only a British gentleman could hope to muster. I couldn’t be happier with my choice of dentist, and I know you’ll be happy as well.”

Excellent Rating

I have been going to Dr. McEvoy for eight years now. I have referred my wife, and several friends to his office, and everyone has been very pleased with the quality, and caliber of the service delivered by Patrick, and his wonderful staff. I think all of the employees that were there when I started eight years ago are still there. That certainly speaks volumes about a happy practice, and happy staff. Patrick is such a caring gentleman. I have never felt so comfortable, and confident in a dental office. His new patient exam was the most thorough I've ever had. The office is very new and modern, with state-of-the-art equipment. It is obvious that Patrick, and the staff are very proud of what they have created. You can feel their commitment to excellence. I think what I like best about Patrick is that he takes the time to listen to his patients. He lets you know exactly what modern dentistry can provide, what you need, and what you can get by with according to your time and budget. He gives you choices, and explains the benefits of each choice. There is absolutely no pressure, just thorough education. I have had eight laminate veneers, and one implant. The implant feels as solid as a rock. I only wish I had done the laminate veneers many years ago. They look fantastic. His two front desk staff members, Susie and Rosy, are fantastic examples of what can be done with veneers. Be sure to ask them to show you the before pictures. All in all, I couldn't give a more glowing recommendation of any professional. If you choose Dr. McEvoy as your dentist, you will be very pleased with your decision.

Keep Your Smile Intact: Advice from a Mountain View Cosmetic Dentist on How Not to Wreck your Teeth

Bad habits such as these can build up over time to cause bigger problems, but sudden breakdowns can also occur as a result of everyday events. Playing a sport without a mouth guard, or tripping and hitting your face on the ground, or other common accidents frequently result in chipped or broken teeth.

Mountain View cosmetic dentist Dr. Patrick F. McEvoy, DDS, explains that thanks to advances in cosmetic dental technology there are many excellent techniques for repairing teeth that have suffered damage. For people whose teeth enamel is worn, veneers – usually made of porcelain – are an excellent option that function as replacements for the natural tooth’s enamel. They are placed directly on the tooth’s surface and usually attached by using a light-sensitive resin that hardens and bonds when exposed to ultraviolet light.

Stop Sneaky Teeth Stainers: Visit your Mountain View CA Dentist

Online beauty resource StyleList.com notes that beauty starts with a great smile:
If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then teeth must be the welcome mat. While that may not be an appetizing analogy, it might help explain why it’s all too easy to end up with a dingy yellow smile. Just as you’d take off muddy boots before stepping on a white carpet, you should avoid the foods that can stain your pristine teeth.
All too often, our best efforts to keep teeth white are canceled out because of the many things we eat, drink, do or don’t do that result in a dingy yellow smile instead. To maintain whiter teeth, there are certain teeth-sullying substances it’s wise to indulge in less frequently, or avoid before a special event. But, if you don’t want to deprive yourself all the foods and activities listed below, a regular maintenance schedule with a skilled dentist from Mountain View, CA (or reputable dental offices in your area) will keep your smile bright.
